Day 12: August 2
Day 12, 8/2/24 - going home
We look at the trip home with some combination of relief and dread. Going home is a little easier because we don't mind checking a bag instead of hauling it around. If it gets lost, of course we want our stuff, but it's not disastrous the way it would be if it got lost on the way out.
Here's spiral staircase of our last hotel.
The guy who picked us up arrived in a Tesla. There were a lot of electric taxis both in Copenhagen and in Stockholm.
Here's the obligatory picture of the duty-free shopping mall that you have to walk through to get to your gate.
Orthopedic shoes.
The flight west is arguably easier than going east, but we still try to sleep on the plane.
One of the things that makes VBT a good value is that airfare is included in the price. The disadvantage of this is that we don't have control over what flights we get. We can complain, but sometimes we're just stuck with what we get. (On the last trip, one family had a 6:00am flight. That meant barely sleeping in order to get to the airport on time. They didn't know they could complain, but it might or might not have made any difference.)
On this trip, we had an 8-hour layover in JFK. Mike reserved a rental car and it was just as well because when we arrived in JFK, our evening flight had been canceled. And when we got to the National Car rental desk, they were out of cars!
Here's our boat.
The drive home was long but uneventful. It took us over an hour to get out of NYC. Getting home at 9:00pm EDT felt like 3:00am.
Another trip in the books. Thanks for reading!
